Generous Benefactors Increase Number of Christian Service Awards to New High of 23!

The Catholic Community Foundation, through its generous benefactors, has increased the number of Christian Service Awards it grants from 4 awards in 1998 to 23 awards in 2011. Interest in the Awards has also grown this year as the number of applications received reached an all-time high. 114 eighth grade students completed applications for the $8,000, four-year Catholic high school tuition scholarships. Every student had the opportunity to interview with members of the Foundation's volunteer Christian Service Awards Committee, and on December 4, 2010, they arrived at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School in Central Phoenix to do so. Starting at 9:00 a.m., interviews led by two-member teams from the committee were conducted every 15 minutes, thereby interviewing 24 students every hour until 2:45pm.

The Christian Service Awards committee took great care in reviewing the applications received, interviewing all of the applicants, and selecting the 23 recipients. Award recipients were notified by mail and phone prior to Christmas, 2010, so they could share their wonderful news with family at the holiday.

These 23 deserving youths display a love and understanding of their Catholic faith and articulate a commitment, not just to performing acts of service, but to living a service focused life.
